QQ Plot

Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-Q

Description

This module provides a quick way to create a QQ-plot of a data set against the standard normal distribution with a reference line. It is non-interactive: you pre-select the data, and a column is added with cell formulas using QQnorm and QQref and a plot is generated based on the results.

Use

Select the data, which must be in a single column, that you wish to plot against the standard normal distribution, and then trigger the macro by selecting Analysis →\to QQ Plot (or using the Ctrl-Shift-Q keyboard shortcut). A column will be added that hosts two new cell formulas, but the specifics depend on circumstances.

  • If the data are not in a table, a column is added to the left of the data. Further, if there is room above the data (two cells worth) then the QQref output will be above the data and spill across both columns, and the QQnorm output will be flush with the input data. But if either of the two cells above the data has information (eg a label) then the added column will contain both cell formulas (the QQref output will be converted to a column by TOCOL).
  • If the data is a column in a table then the column will be added two columns to the right of the edge of the table.

The pre-selected data must be a column containing at least two numbers.
